10 icebreaker polls for your next meeting

By Voxpla team ·

The first five minutes decide whether a meeting is a monologue or a conversation. A quick poll gets every phone in the room involved before you reach the first agenda item. Here are ten that work.

Word clouds

  1. Describe your mood in one word. The word cloud shows the energy of the room at a glance.
  2. Where are you joining from today? Great for hybrid meetings and conferences with guests from many places.
  3. Your perfect weekend in one word. Light, personal and always good for a laugh.

Quick choices

  1. Coffee or tea? Coffee, tea, both or neither. Everyone can answer in two seconds.
  2. Which superpower would help you most at work? Teleportation, reading minds, stopping time or being in two places at once.
  3. Morning person or night owl? A simple split that starts conversations.

Scales and open answers

  1. How is your energy level right now? A scale from 0 (exhausted) to 10 (full of energy) tells the facilitator how to pace the session.
  2. What do you expect from today? Open text answers appear as cards on the screen and you can hide any of them.
  3. One thing you learned last week. Short open answers that often turn into the best discussion of the day.

A one-question quiz

  1. A question about your own company. When was it founded, how many people work here, which product came first? Points, a speed bonus and a leaderboard turn it into a small competition.
